If you have been looking for a 1st Generation Dodge Charger, look no further, you just found it.  This beautiful ’66 can be cruised, taken to car shows or drag-raced at your discretion!  During the early-1960s, automakers were exploring new ideas in the specialty car segment. Chrysler, fast to enter the specialty car market, selected their Dodge Division to enter the marketplace with a mid-size B-bodied sporty car to fit between the "pony car" Ford Mustang and "personal luxury" Ford Thunderbird. The intention was to create a fastback look while sharing as much existing company hardware as possible.

For SALE, a first-year edition of the first-generation Dodge Charger. Having been meticulously maintained by the same owner since 1987 and continually restored, it sports a rebuilt and upgraded drivetrain, newer exterior paint, plenty of recent maintenance and runs like a bat out of hades. A garage-kept street/strip muscle car, this black beauty is ready to do battle...Hit the throttle!

Exterior
If you thought the Barracuda fastback was cool, get a load of this fastback. It is truly next level -looking much like the 1965 concept car Dodge rolled out to wet future appetites for the upcoming muscle race. Both the Charger badging (Fratzog) on the trunk lid and front grill are brand new (originals kept & included too), front and rear bumpers refinished in show-chrome, side-view mirrors just replaced with show chrome units as well.  Black paint with clear coat re-done in 2010 shows well. Aluminum trim pieces have been polished to shine like chrome. Up front, hideaway headlights give the grille the appearance that it runs the entire way across the front of the car. Note:  The entire hideaway headlight system was completely rebuilt in 2023 (motors, relays, stop switches and wiring) The sweeping rear light lens echoes the front grill with the taillight strip running across the entire width of the car. The black & chrome color theme is completed with Keystone mag wheels to really set the car off!
Interior
Swing open the doors and black vinyl mixes with aluminum panels and black carpet to create a sporty looking panel. Turning our attention to the seats, pristine, upgraded, black tuck and roll pattern, low-back bucket seats in the front and a duo of additional buckets with fold down capabilities in the rear, featuring a center armrest that folds - allowing the owner to store a large amount of cargo in the large, fastback area. Not to be upstaged by the snazzy rear set up, a center console with padded armrest carries upfront as well, surrounding the long-arm, chrome, Hurst Lightning Rod shifters with dual courtesy lights. Up front, the dash is factory gorgeous and YES, the electroluminescent light gauges work! Very clean with its inline, “jet-age” circular instrument cluster, row of AM radio buttons, ignition and knobs for vents below, all within perfect reach of the driver. The remainder of the dash uses a rectangular pattern to add texture and house the original, working AM radio and airflow levers, and an upgraded glovebox. Black carpet for the floors replaced in 2010 in excellent condition. A clean tight headliner in black is above.

Drivetrain
Original 383 engine replaced by a completely rebuilt 440cid motor, bored .20 over stock and stroked with a Mopar Purple Shaft moderate cam. An aqua block and aluminum M-1 Mopar performance intake, capped with a Holley 750cfm Double Pumper carburetor, chrome valve covers, air cleaner, alternator and wire braid hoses, Mopar aluminum racing heads and dual electric fans to keep her cool under pressure, and TTI headers to let her breathe while shaking the earth!  Clean, this engine is as beautiful as it is powerful.  Original, refreshed 727 transmission with a reverse manual valve body connects to a 8.75 inch posi, super hole shot 4:10 rear end.  This bad boy will pin you to your seat when you hit the throttle!

Undercarriage
Underneath, a dual exhaust system guides us through the Ziebart undercoated and structurally sound undercarriage.  Moroso 8-quart performance oil pan to ensure the powerplant never wants for lubrication and newer oil pickup within.  Independent torsion bar suspension upfront, and leaf springs on the rear are in fab condition along with original drum brake set up all around.

Drive-Ability
IMPORTANT:  This Charger is a BEAST. Buyer should know that she has been upgraded from stock dramatically and intended for drivers that feel the need, for speed and…Know how to handle an old school hot rod!  It is loud, superfast, all four barrels of the carburetor are ALWAYS engaged, there is no choke…So in cold weather, you need to tend it until engine warms up.  As with most 1st gen Charger without disc brakes, you’ll want to pump the brake pedal once or twice before prolonged braking for maximum effectiveness. The Holley performance carb was sent back to the factory for complete rebuild in 2022. Despite all the performance upgrades this car does GLIDE very smoothly down the road.  The speedometer was just rebuilt in 2023 and a new speedo cable and new gear to properly sync with the performance rear-end gear installed.  LESS THAN 10,000 miles on 440 engine rebuild!
